Great Mountain Forest – Norfolk & Falls Village, CT

The Great Mountain Forest (GMF) encompasses approximately 6,042 acres of contiguous forestland in the towns of Norfolk and Falls Village, Connecticut, in the northwest corner of Litchfield County, Connecticut.  The mission is to engage in and support scientific research and education projects involving trees, forests, and other natural resources.

Year-Round Public Access Recreational Uses – 13 miles of forest roads are available for hiking, mt. biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The forest also serves as a subject, focal point, and source of inspiration for many painters, photographers, writers, and musicians.

Events offered include: the Forest Lyceum Lecture Series and book signings by nationally-known scientists, resource managers, and writers, which are co-sponsored by the Douglas, Hunt, and Norfolk Libraries–Maple Days at the GMF sugar house–field workshops for foresters (spring, summer, and fall)–using chainsaws workshops–forest landowner training–holiday wreath making workshop (early-December).
