A Great American House Designed by A Great American Writer
To tell the stories of The Mount we offer tours of the house and gardens. There are no velvet ropes and stanchions, instead we invite our visitors to sit and interact with the rooms. Interpretive exhibits throughout the house explore Wharton’s life, her humanitarian efforts, literary legacy, and lives of the servants.

In addition to being a house with a story to tell, we are also a cultural center, partnering with over 40 local organizations to present lectures, dramatic readings, theater, music, storytelling, workshops, outdoor sculpture, films, and literary panels. Be sure to check out our Calendar of Events.

A day at The Mount is an opportunity to experience the beauty and splendor of Edith Wharton’s beloved country estate. There is so much to do! Be sure to spend some time exploring our trails. They offer a rare opportunity to experience a forest setting that has been carefully manicured and curated, just like the gardens. The trails are not challenging but do feature rock outcroppings and glacial moraines.

The Mount is located in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. We are down the road from Tanglewood in Lenox, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, and a scenic 30 minute drive from Mass MoCA in North Adams.

The Mount is a Massachusetts Cultural Council UP designated organization welcoming participants of all disabilities. Please contact us at 413-551-5100 or by email, info@edithwharton.org
