Description
Take a hike! The Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area is holding its annual “Heritage Walks Weekends”, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday: September 18th and 19th AND October 2nd and 3rd. Enjoy more than 40 free, guided walks, offered throughout the heritage area that includes portions of Berkshire County, MA and Litchfield County, CT.
The 2010 Heritage Walks feature short walks as well as longer hikes, walking tours of towns and historical buildings, nature and birding walks, tours of industrial site ruins, a canoe / kayak trip on the river, and Native American walks. Historians, naturalists, and environmentalists will help participants explore the region’s rich historical, cultural, industrial and environmental history.
Many historically and culturally significant venues are opening their doors to the public on these weekends. In addition - natural resource organizations will provide access to many of the region’s significant resource areas, and provide interpretive talks about those resources.
